Clinical Sciences 19th April 2012 Exam

Overview

The Clinical Sciences Examination is offered to Ophthalmologists who have passed the complete Basic Science Examination for Ophthalmologists (including Theoretical optics and Refraction) or an examination of similar standard recognised by the International Council of Ophthalmology.

This Examination is designed to discover whether candidates have acquired the breadth and depth of knowledge of the clinical sciences related to ophthalmology to enable them to recognise and treat diseases of the eye which they will come in contact with in day to day practice.

The Examination is presented in a booklet and consists of 200 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) over a four hour period. The questions consist of fouroptions, with one correct answer.

The candidates enter their answers on response sheets which are computer marked. A positive mark is awarded for each correct answer. No mark is given to those questions marked incorrectly of left blank. The computerised results are then analysed by the Examinations Committee.

Answering all the questions accurately is the best way of obtaining a pass grade but, because accuracy is very important and take time, it is still possible to pass the examinations without completing all the questions.
